Why it was hard
Product and engineering were in conflict
The CPO was not joining a calm team: the first task was to build working processes between the two functions.
Filtering by domain made no sense
What mattered was not fintech experience but experience building processes between product and engineering. That had to be checked separately, on examples from previous roles.
How we searched
We searched in large B2C products, not only in fintech
Domain experience was not a key requirement, so NEWHR mapped 12 leading large-audience B2C companies in the client's target markets — among them marketplaces, banks, a delivery service and mobile apps — and the product leaders behind them.
We checked how candidates had actually aligned product and engineering
We assessed hard and soft skills. The main focus was how each candidate had actually built the collaboration between product and engineering in previous roles.
We presented 6 finalists to the client
