A C++ engineer with Chromium experience for the Tempest browser: found through contributor lists, not CVs
We found a Chromium engineer with no public CV: hired with relocation to Germany
Tempest, a privacy-focused browser, needed a C++ engineer with hands-on browser engine experience. Such engineers almost never have public CVs, so NEWHR searched not job boards but Chromium contributor lists. The candidate we found passed a technical interview with the client's engineers and relocated to Germany.
Request and constraints
- C++ engineer
- Hands-on experience with the Chromium browser engine
- A key role in the product: a privacy-focused browser
Why it was hard
The pool is invisible to a regular search
Engineers with real Chromium experience rarely publish CVs. Keyword search did not find them.
Narrow expertise
C++ experience alone is not enough: the role needs hands-on experience with a browser engine specifically.
How we searched
We searched by actual work, not by CVs
Instead of job boards, NEWHR used Chromium contributor lists: in an open-source project you can see who did what in the engine's code. That is how we found engineers with no public profile at all.
We approached people who were not looking
We approached people from the lists directly: they have no public profile and are not looking for a job. The final candidate had spent three years working on a large Chromium-based browser.
The client ran the technical check
Tempest's engineers assessed the technical expertise: the candidate passed a demanding technical interview.
Result
One hire with relocation to Germany, for a key role in the Tempest browser.
A complex search with high value thanks to rare expertise focused on Chromium.
